This was a game that i had high expectations for. I have been lookibg forward to ot since it was announced and the addition of the multiplayer was a new excitement for the game that i had high anticipation for.
So from the beginning the tutorial guides us through the basics and explains the new concept of blood plague. Pretty simple bash zombies heads in loot for materials, weapons and medicine. Simple easy enough. Once the game starts theres one feature thats not abundantly clear to begin with as its not pointed out at any point. But keen observers will see the option at the bottom of the screen. I am in fact talking about how to fast transfer from a vehicle straight to your base.
I have now played the game and completed my first playthrough so i feel comfortable in saying that this game felt like i was playing a prettier version of the original game. Between the 2 games there is not much that is overly different. Same basic principle find resources to expand your home base kill zombies. Both games have the same types of zombies and both games have infestations both games have lookout points. The similarities are vast.
The big difference between the two is the blood plague and the plague hearts. These add a new survival dimension to the game in which you have a bar that will gradually fill if you are bitten by a plague zombie or infected by the plague heart. Once full you only have a limited time to create the cure and administer it. If it comes to the point where you have no cure you can exile the infected or have the option to euthanize them.
The second difference is the multiplayer which personally i feel is something that could have quite easily have been left out as it doesnt bring much to the game. Essentially when you join a hosts game (or someone joins your game) your purpose essentially becomes a helper. You can loot amd kill zombies and thats where it ends. You are unable to help build up the hosts base, select of finish quests on behalf of the host. However while you are in the hosts game you do accumulate influence (in game currency) which will transfer over to your game. You will also receive a multiplayer rewards which increase the longer you are in the hosts game.
Personally i feel that this game doesn't hit the mark in terms of gameplay in comparison to the first as it feels and plays exactly the same and the multiplayer is such a huge let down. There is also numerous bugs in the game most of which i have as yet not encountered. The main one i seem to come across is while driving randomly being stuck on rocks or driving through zombies. The biggest one i have came across that happens most frequent seems to be with doors. On occasion when attempting to open the door the prompt does not appear, or the door is open and you cant walk through.
Ive decided that due to the minor bugs, the feeling of sameness between this and the first, the poor multiplayer attempt that i will give the game 3/5.
